Basic Principles of Photography
SHUTTER SPEED

-
Shutter speed is the speed at which the shutter of the camera closes.
-
A fast shutter speed creates a shorter exposure — the amount of light the camera takes in — and a slow shutter speed gives the photographer a longer exposure.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

-
ISO is one of the three pillars of the photography exposure triangle.
-
ISO controls the amount of light that your camera lets in and has a huge impact on the darkness or light in your photos/videos.
APERATURE

-
Aperture controls the amount of light that enters your camera.
-
A small aperture has a higher f-stop, whereas a large aperture has a small f-stop number.
-
Smaller apertures let in less light, so naturally, larger apertures let in more light.

WHITE BALANCE

-
White balance is the adjustment of a digital photograph to make its colors appear more realistic.
-
To achieve good in-camera white balance when shooting, consider these factors: Shoot in RAW file format.
-
Aim for consistent lighting. Use a gray card to be precise.

S-LOG

-
S-Log is a log curve that has been specially optimized for digital motion picture cameras to maximize the performance of the image sensor.
-
Cinematographers shooting in the current REC.709 standard has to choose whether to sacrifice detail in the highlights or the shadows.
-
S-Log allows you to retain all of this information.

COLOR GRADING

-
Learn how to use "Lumetri Color Scopes."Color correct before you color grade.
-
Color grading helps you create a mood or coherent sensibility with your color palette.
-
Color grading conveys a visual tone.
-
With color grading, you’ll want to focus on adjustments in curves, brightness and contrast, color match, and white balance.

LUTs (LookUp Tables)

-
LUT is an acronym for Look Up Table. It processes a color value and outputs a corresponding value.
-
You can use LUTs to manipulate saturation and contrast, or completely change the color of a clip. LUTs are commonly used to create and save color grades that can be applied to give your clips a unique style.

ND Filters (Neutral Density)

-
A ND filter is a physical filter made of resin or glass that attaches to the front of your lens.
-
They can be used on film or digital cameras and block out some of the light in your image.
-
If certain areas are too bright for your desired camera settings, an ND filter may be the solution.
-
Less light enters the lens, because the filter in front of it has a higher optical density.

DRONES

-
Drones provide new aerial perspectives, enhancing visual experience and capturing new vantage points of the world.
-
Download satellite mapping apps to learn free and no-fly-zones.
-
Airspace safety is very important.
